3D Flexure

A generatively designed flexure that maximizes in-plane stiffness while allowing controlled Z-axis displacement, 3D printed in PLA.

3D-printed compliant flexure

This flexure is stiff in the X and Y planar translations, while allowing an out-of-plane Z displacement. It has a maximum stored energy of 3 J with 1 mm of displacement.

It is designed to be adhered to a surface on the bottom of the part (i.e. the bottom face is fixed). This part is FDM 3D-printed out of PLA. The design process takes into account PLA’s yield stress and ensures the factor of safety is greater than or equal to 1.5.
